Have We Forgotten About the Kids?
A Mom’s Scream Into the Delta Variant Void.
Hi. I’m just wondering, what’s the plan for the little kids? I mean, do we have one? If we have a plan, could someone please share it with me?
You know, the little kids — the ones under age 12, who aren’t eligible for vaccination yet. The ones who don’t like wearing a mask anymore. The ones whose friends tell them it’s silly to wear a mask because “the virus is over.” The ones who love hugging, who’ll put their hands into everything and then their hands into their mouths. I may as well also ask about the littlest ones, who can’t keep a mask on or can’t wear a mask, because I think there are a few of those out there, too. You know, BABIES.
So … what’s the plan? Are we sending the preschoolers and kindergarteners and elementary school kids back in person? For sure? Don’t we need to get ready for that? How are we all getting ready for that? Will they be wearing masks? Will the adults around them be wearing masks? Will schools require all of the adults to be vaccinated? Will there be any community guidelines for parents? Will anyone respect the guidelines? Are we all just counting on the fact that our kid(s) won’t be the one(s) to get sick?
